The Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) examines poverty in the world across several different dimensions. Data is collected through household surveys in 110 developing countries worldwide representing 6.1 billion people.
* Most countries conducted their surveys prior to 2020, meaning that the full effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine war have not been covered.

The most common type of poverty facing the world's poor people is a lack of access to clean cooking fuel. As of 2024, *** million people were forced to cook with solid fuels such as wood and coal. The second most common type of poverty was a lack of access to proper housing, a problem that faced over *** million poor people.Â
