The World Bank officially stopped using the 2.15 U.S. dollars a day poverty line (based on 2017 PPPs) and switched to the 3.00 U.S. dollars a day line (based on 2021 PPPs) in June 2025.
*Most recent value is included in brackets. Please note that countries for which the most recent value was from 2013 or earlier have been omitted. Numbers were also unavailable for a range of countries.

Countries with the highest poverty rate worldwide 2024
All 20 countries with the highest poverty rates in the world are located in Africa. The Democratic Republic of Congo and Mozambique were the two countries with the highest share of people living on less than 3.00 U.S. dollars a day when adjusting for 2021 Purchasing Power Parities (PPP), both at over ** percent.
