The number of passenger cars exported from Germany fell in July 2026 compared with June 2026. In total, around ***of the passenger cars produced in Germany were exported abroad. That means roughly **** percent of all cars manufactured domestically were exported in July. Compared with July 2025, the number of exported passenger cars fell by **** percent.

USA as main buyer

With a value of around **** billion euros, the United States was the largest destination market for German passenger cars in 2024. It was followed by the United Kingdom, with about **** billion euros. While the most revenue by country came from the U.S., Europe was the most important market by number of exported cars. Of a total of roughly *** million exported passenger cars, about *** million went to European countries.

China as largest exporter

Historically, Japan and Germany exported the most motor vehicles worldwide. However, export volumes in both countries have fallen significantly over the past decade. Japan never returned to its pre-financial crisis peak of almost *** million exports in 2008.
In 2023, China exported about **** million passenger cars, more than Germany. Unlike many other countries, China’s automotive industry continued to grow during the pandemic, while Japan and Germany experienced a marked decline.
