Most purchased and consumed beverages in Germany 2019-2025
Mineral water is by far the most purchased and consumed beverage in Germany. Around ** percent of the population bought it in 2025. Germans are known for their preference for fizzy drinking water. Other popular beverages in this ranking included fruit juice, drinks and nectar, cola drinks, as well as caffeinated coffee.Ìý
A multi-billion-euro industry
The beverage industry as such includes the manufacture of various alcoholic drinks, as well as non-alcoholic ones and mineral water. Generating over ** billion euros worth of total revenue in 2024, of which soft drinks and mineral water contributed the ****Ìýrevenue share. Beer followed in close third place, generating around * million euros in revenue in 2024. ÌýEarnings are expected to grow in the next years.
What about beer?
While Germany is widely known both for its long-standing beer production industry, as well as seemingly active consumption habits, beer is not in the top three of the most bought beverages. Pils and export beer are overtaken by Cola drinks, caffeinated coffee and fruit juice.ÌýBeer consumption per capita has been dropping significantly compared to the 1970s and 1980s and, as of 2025, was still on a downward trend.
