Citation formats

The number of monthly transactions performed with Brazil's Pix were significantly higher than other A2A payment methods elsewhere in Latin America. The Brazilian wallet – developed and moderated by the country's central bank, utilizing a real-time payments rail – was released in late 2020, and saw its number of transactions increase by *** percent between launch and 2023. It is believed that A2A payments, or account-to-account payments – electronic payments made directly from one party (account) to another while bypassing traditional card rails – are to increase in Latin America. Countries like Peru or Argentina implemented new regulations in 2022 to help expand the new payments type.
