Globally, most sectors have observed an overall increase in methane emissions since 1990, with the exception of the transportation sector and buildings. Global agriculture-related methane emissions were ** percent higher in 2024 when compared to 1990 levels, and ** percent higher when compared to 2005 levels. The agriculture sector is the largest source of global methane emissions.
