The egg industry in the U.S. was impacted greatly from the avian flu since 2022, with consumers paying an average retail price of over six U.S. dollars for a dozen eggs as of March 2025, more than four times the price in 2020. This figure has since decreased, but remains elevated compared to previous years. There were roughly 21 million fewer egg-laying hens in 2025 compared to 2021, and egg production fell to about 105.2 billion eggs that year.
