Electric vehicles in Spain - Statistics & facts
Spain has a long road ahead to reach the European Union's plan for all passenger car and van sales to be zero emissions by 2035. As of 2022, around 205,700 zero-emission passenger cars were in use on Spanish roads, while over 9.05 million cars had the C environmental sticker, granted to light petrol vehicles registered since January 2006 or light diesel vehicles registered since September 2015. The zero-emission vehicle market is still emerging, with battery-electric vehicles spearheading its global growth. In Spain, under ten percent of new passenger car sales in 2022 were plug-in electric vehicles, nearly four percent of which were battery-electric vehicles. Comparatively, around 12.14 percent of passenger car sales in the European Union were fully electric.
