The 22nd FIFA World Cup is being held in November and December 2022 in Qatar. This World Cup will be by far the most expensive in history. Indeed, the Emirate has spent no less than 220 billion U.S. dollars to host the competition. The previous record was 15 billion U.S. dollars for the 2014 World Cup held in Brazil. This surge in expenses is notably linked to the construction of the stadiums. Of the eight stadiums hosting the matches, only one was already in service before the World Cup was awarded to Qatar in 2010.
