Jeannette Jara Román, a member of the Communist Party of Chile who served as Minister of Labor and Social Welfare from 2022 to 2025 under President Gabriel Boric, was the most-voted candidate in the first round of the Chilean general presidential elections on November 16, 2025, with almost 27 percent of the votes. On the other hand, the far-right candidate José Antonio Kast Rist received the second-highest share of votes, with almost 24 percent. Therefore, they both qualified for the second round, which was held on December 14, 2025.

Kast is the son of a German army lieutenant who was a member of the Nazi party and left Germany in 1950. During the election campaign, he spoke positively about the former Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet.

In the second round, Kast, supported by the candidates with the next highest shares of votes, Fernandez, Kaiser, and Fornet, who also belong to the Chilean political right, won the election with 58,16 percent of the votes.
