The European questionnaire on Information and Communication Technologies Data reveals that there exists a disparity between the internet usage of people with a low (At most lower secondary education), medium (Upper secondary and post-secondary non-tertiary education), and high (Tertiary education) formal education level. This disparity although present in most countries, differs widely in its severity.
In 2019, 24 percent of users with low formal education in Portugal uploaded self-created content, this constituted a decrease of six percent since 2017. Users with medium or higher education tended to share more content online. According to the survey 56 percent of people with a medium level of formal education and 56 percent of users with a high degree of formal education share self-created content online. The gap between people with lower and higher formal education therefore was 32 percent.
