Armenia had the highest press freedom index score in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) in 2025, measured at 73.96 points. To compare, Russia's press freedom index score reached 24.57 points. Turkmenistan ranked the lowest in the region, with an index score recorded at above 19 points. According to the index methodology, that corresponded to a very serious media freedom situation. Turkmenistan was placed 174th out of 180 countries investigated by the survey. Scores in the World Press Freedom Index by Reporters Without Borders ranged from 0 to 100 points, where 100 was the best possible result.
